Availity CarePrescribe adds new patient safety feature

Availity1 has made its easy-to-use electronic prescribing solution better than ever by offering a new capability to further improve patient safety.

Availity® CarePrescribeSM delivers real-time prescribing information at the point of care. In addition to sending prescriptions electronically to a patient’s pharmacy of choice, physicians can use CarePrescribe to check a patient’s medication history, lower-cost alternative options, and real-time drug-to-drug and drug-allergy interactions.

Now, with CarePrescribe’s latest enhancement, providers can add patient-reported medication to the patient history—whether over-the-counter medications or samples dispensed at a provider’s office—information that can be critical when writing a prescription.

Not only can patient-reported medications now be included in the drug-to-drug interaction check, but patient safety is further improved by a check for duplicate therapies and validation of the appropriate therapy based on patient demographics, such as age and gender.
