On July 30, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida launched its newly redesigned website, www.bcbsfl.com.

Social Security numbers being phased out as IDs

As reported in the Bulletin included in the spring issue of BlueLine HospitalNews, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida and its HMO subsidiary, Health Options, are removing Social Security numbers from ID cards and replacing them with unique numbers to identify members.

Use new ICD-9 codes

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) will soon issue the new International Classification of Diseases, Ninth Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-9-CM). Updated ICD-9-CM codes will apply to all hospital discharges on or after Oct. 1, 2004.
