Spring 2009
Quality Program to focus on diagnostic imaging
Beginning in August 2009, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida’s Quality Improvement (QI) Program will include the Diagnostic Imaging Quality Assessment Program as an area of focus. The initiative is designed to promote the quality and safety of advanced imaging services provided to our members. Physicians and providers that bill either global or technical components for advanced imaging services are required to participate.
The Diagnostic Imaging Quality Assessment Program will use an organized, systematic and coordinated approach to evaluating quality. Four factors are assessed, including: (1) the certifications of the physician reading the study; (2) the technician's certifications; (3) the machine's accreditations; and (4) the machine's quality, including age. Advanced imaging services will be monitored and evaluated, and actions will be taken, as appropriate, to achieve measurable improvements.
Physicians and providers of advanced imaging services have been mailed information about OptiNetSM, the online assessment survey from American Imaging Management, Inc. (AIM), which is used in the evaluation process. If you did not receive the information about the online assessment survey, check the Frequently Asked Questions on our website.
