Quality counts in care and service

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida, Inc. (BCBSF) and our HMO subsidiary, Health Options, Inc., are committed to quality care and service. We fully support the standards established by federal and state regulatory agencies and the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA). This special section of BlueLine focuses on the policies that are in place to protect members and provides the results of NCQA’s most recent Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS®) and Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS®) surveys.

BCBSF ranks highest in member satisfaction again

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida, Inc. (BCBSF) was ranked "Highest Member Satisfaction among Commercial Health Plans in the South," according to the J.D. Power and Associates 2009 National Health Insurance Plan Study(ies)SM.*

BCBSF enforces timely filing requirements

In November 2009, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida, Inc. (BCBSF) began enforcing the timely claim filing requirements set forth in BCBSF’s participating provider agreement(s). Enforcement of these requirements is consistent with the specific time period set forth under the applicable provider agreement for each network, but in no event will the time period be less than 180 days.

New online training modules available

Have you recently joined one of our provider networks, added a new line of business, added a physician to your practice or hired new staff members in your office? If so, we have tools available to assist you. Our online training tools can help educate your office staff about Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida, Inc.’s (BCBSF’s) products and services at any time convenient to them.

Discounts from Blue Program discontinued

The Discounts from Blue Program will be discontinued effective December 31, 2009. Discounts from Blue offered discounts on select office and personal products and services, such as medical coding publications, paper shredders and other standard office machines, computer equipment and medical uniforms. Any purchases made prior to November 30, 2009, will be processed.

Florida Blue center coming soon to Tampa area

In 2006, we opened the first of our Florida Blue retail stores in Jacksonville. The stores were designed to provide easier access to purchasing health care coverage, in person. To improve on this concept, we are taking it a step further—now creating consumer health information centers— and additionally, offering decision making support, education and services to members. An exciting new idea for the industry, our first center is scheduled to open in Tampa in January 2010.
